10. Jetboy

San Francisco 1986

The moussed hair, the eyeliner, the fringed shirts... SF's Jetboy were the quintessential mid- '80s glam-pop-rock group. Getting them to strike a pose was never a problem. This shot, taken in the graffiti-covered alleyway behind the Mabuhay Gardens, was the culmination of a long day spent photographing them all over the City, but they still looked glamourous despite standing in unidentified muck and the stench of urine. A few months later Jetboy signed to MCA and unofficially relocated to Los Angeles.
