45. Tommy Stinson

Bottom of the Hill, 2004

It was the strangest of audience pairings. On the one hand, there were the Guns n' Roses followers who were there to see Axl's most perplexing sidekick choice up close and personal. On the other hand, there were the Replacements fans who were there because they were actually familiar with Tommy and respected (in some cases, worshiped) his back catalog. And the phrase "never the twain shall meet" was never more apt. Although it's fair to say that the GnR fans were the more confused as Tommy, augmenting his non-burdensome GnR recording/gigging schedule by promoting the release of his own Village Gorilla Head CD with some club dates, maintained his post-punk cool in both look and sound.
