Peter Case and Mike Wilhelm Café DuNord, San Francisco, 2005 It's likely that Plimsoul's leader, Peter Case, first heard about SF's own Charlatans, and their ever-dapper guitarist Mike Wilhelm, from his older sister who lived in the City during the flower-power glory days of the late sixties. It was her "amazing stories," Case once told me, that fueled his imagination; and her record collection that was a major influence on his musical education, instilling him with a passion for '50s rock 'n' roll and '60s folk, to which he added his own leanings towards country-blues and American garage-punk. So it was really quite fitting when Wilhelm (along with one-time Flamin' Groovies frontman Cyril Jordan) joined the Plimsouls onstage for several songs at this 2005 reunion. |
